Highlight of the Congress: Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease: From cell to man to society

In 2009 the European Society of Cardiology has decided to focus on the prevention of cardiovascular disease as the highlight of this annual congress in Barcelona. Developments in this field over the last few years have been amazing, from basic to clinical and population science. Due to its very nature Prevention is a field with one of the broadest and largest involvement of researchers in different areas of Cardiovascular Medicine. This information will be presented in an attractive programme including State-of-the-Art Lectures, Symposia, and didactic Read and Meet with the Expert Sessions.

Reasons to attend the Congress: Key dates:

 Continuing Medical Education Credits

The ESC Congress 2009 is accredited by the European Board for Accreditation in Cardiology (EBAC) and by the European Accreditation Council in CME (EACCME) for 18 hours of external CME credits. Each participant should claim only those hours of credit that have actually been spent in the educational activity.

EBAC works according to the quality standards of the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), which is an institution of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS).

Attendance Certificates for participants will be provided on site upon request, in the Registration Area, as of Monday afternoon.

EACCME/ EBAC credits are recognised by the American Medical Association towards the Physician's Recognition Award (PRA). Detailed instructions for converting EACCME/ EBAC Credits to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit are available on the AMA website: ama-assn.org. If you have any questions, please contact the AMA Continuing Physician Professional Development at pra@ama-assn.org.

In compliance with EBAC/ EACCME guidelines, all speakers and chairpersons participating in this programme have disclosed or indicated potential conflicts of interest which might cause a bias in the presentations. The Organising Committee is responsible for ensuring that all potential conflicts of interest relevant to the event are declared to the audience prior to the CME activities.

Industries are invited to organise scientific sessions as part of the ESC Congress 2009 programme. Cooperation between clinicians, researchers and the pharmaceutical and technical industries has significantly contributed to a better understanding and management of patients with cardiovascular diseases.
This is reflected in a series of Industry Sponsored Satellite Symposia and shorter Lunch Time Workshops which allow interactive discussion, devoted questions and if desired, current practice of medical devices equipment and other themes relevant to the control and prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
